Dear Democrats,

 

It’s here, our 2025 Beans and Jeans supper and fundraiser! Tuesday, April 29, 5:00pm at the Old Tyler Road Café. And our special guest will be there, Kendall Scudder, the dynamic young Chair of the Texas Democratic Party. So come on down for some good food and music, get fired up by Kendall’s speech, then keep resisting Trump and the Republicans as we prepare for the 2026 election.

1. *Tuesday, April 29, is the last day of early voting in the local elections in Nacogdoches.

 

2. The Nacogdoches County Democrats will hold their traditional Beans and Jeans fundraiser/supper on Tuesday, April 29, starting at 5:00pm in the Old Tyler Road Café, 603 Old Tyler Road. Our guest speaker will be Kendall Scudder, the new Chair of the Texas Democratic Party! Music, silent auction, cash bar. 3. Our next rally will be on Thursday, May 1, at 4:30pm across from SFA, which is a national day of protest.  We will register with 50501 to make sure our numbers get counted.  Please let your friends, who have been at past rallies, know the change in date. The larger the rally, the more impact we make. There are so many issues to emphasize.  Please make signs that express your outrage.

 

4. *Saturday, May 3, is Election day for the local city council and school board elections. Last chance to make your voice heard in these important races.

 

5. The annual Ability Strong Festival will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 10:00am to 1:00pm in Banita Creek Park North, 441-449 Pearl Street. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, balloon artists, community vendors, music, and free food!

 

6. The Nacogdoches County Democratic Party will meet on TUESDAY, May 6, in the Courthouse Annex, 203 West Main Street. The Executive Committee will meet at 5:30pm. This will be followed at about 6:00pm by the general monthly meeting.

 

7. The NAACP’s  Youth Work committee will meet on Tuesday, May 6, at 6:30pm in the Little Zion Baptist Church, 305 Shawnee Street to discuss plans for the Annual Back to School Backpack/School Supplies Event for 2025.

 

8. The Nacogdoches NAACP unit will hold their Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 13, at 5:30pm, in the Little Zion Baptist Church, 305 Shawnee Street. The monthly General Membership meeting will start after this meeting, at 6:20pm. Contact the NAACP Secretary, Lisa Colston, at (504) 905-8720, for more information.

 

9. The Nacogdoches Community Coalition will meet at 5:30pm on Monday, May 19, in the Little Zion Baptist Church, 305 Shawnee Street.

 

10. The 21/7 Association will have their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 20, at noon at Cypress Ridge, 2701 Logan Circle. Contact Nancy Niehaus for more information.

 

11. The Nacogdoches Democrats will hold a town hall meeting on Saturday, June 7, with or without our Congressman Pete Sessions. Stay tuned for details.

 

Local Elections

Saturday, May 3, is a Uniform Election Date for the State of Texas. City council positions in Nacogdoches and school board positions in Nacogdoches, Garrison, and Chireno are on the ballot.

 

In Nacogdoches, the last two days of Early Voting will take place at the County Courthouse Annex, 203 West Main Street, on Monday, April 28 and Tuesday April 29, from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Polls are open on Election Day from 7:00am to 7:00pm at the same location.

 

In Nacogdoches, the General Election will be for Northeast Ward Council Member, Northwest Ward Council Member, and At-Large Mayor. Since the Council Member’s races are uncontested only the Mayor’s race will be on the ballot for all voters living in the city:

The Nacogdoches ISD Board of Trustees has two positions open for the May 3 election, At-Large  and District 1. District 1 is uncontested so only the at-large position will be on the ballot for all voters in the Nacogdoches school district:

Nacogdoches City Council

The Nacogdoches City Council will hold their regular meeting at 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 6, in the City Hall, 202 East Pilar Street. Nacogdoches County Commissioners

The Nacogdoches County Commissioners Court will meet on Tuesday, April 29, at 9:00am in the Commissioners’ Courtroom, Suite 170 of the Nacogdoches County Courthouse, 101 West Main Street. Recordings of meetings are posted on the county website.  


NISD School Board meetings

The NISD School Board will have a regular meeting on Thursday, May 12, at 5:00pm in the E.J. Campbell District Support Center Annex, 420 South Shawnee Street. Go to their website for more information.

 

Nacogdoches County Hospital District

Nacogdoches County Hospital District Board of Directors meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 5:15pm in Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary Conference Center, 1204 North Mound Street. For information about the Hospital District go to their website https://nachd.org.
