Weekly Newsletter January 27, 2025

Updated: Feb 11

Dear Democrats,

What a week it’s been, trying to keep up with the damage that Trump is doing to the things that I care about, things like civil rights, voting rights, foreign aid, LGBTQ rights, compassionate immigration policies, Ukraine, NATO, the census, on and on. And I’m sure that you have your own list that grows every time you turn on the news. It’s overwhelming, inundating, trying to drink from a firehose. But as David Litt in The Contrarian points out, this is a very clever strategy on Trump’s part, this shotgun approach convinces people that he is strong and decisive. Litt recommends that we go small and ignore Trump as we push back. Focus on one thing that Trump’s actions are already making worse. Talk about one person with diabetes and what it will mean for them if the price of insulin goes back up to its old level. It’s easier to focus on one action that everyone agrees is heinous, he says, than $40 billion or $400 billion. But we do need to push back, at all levels, each of us in our own way.

Sara Dumas - March 4, 1933 - January 1, 2025

Sadly, Sara Dumas passed away on January 1st. She was a bright light in East Texas, a dynamic activist who lived every day fully engaged in trying to make her town, her communities, our state, and our country better places for everyone. She was a tremendously effective supporter of Democratic values and principles. For every challenge she frequently said “I want to DO something” - and then she did. We extend our condolences to her family, and we remember her with awe and gratitude.

There will be a Celebration of Life for on Sunday, February 2, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm,  at the Nacogdoches Senior Center,  1601 West Austin Street. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Sabine County Food Bank or to the Nacogdoches Senior Center.
